We are committed to a sustainable future for our students, our school and the world we live in.
In order to preserve our world and our school for our students, we are actively engaged in sustainable practices across our environmental, financial and educational operations.
'We recognise our role as a school community to act with responsibility to the environment and empower students to lead environmental and social sustainability projects.'
– Strategic Direction Statement, Carey Baptist Grammar School, 2023
Our Sustainability Plan: 2025–27 is our roadmap to reducing our impact on the environment and working towards our ambitions goal of Net Zero by 2035.
The plan details our targets and projected milestones in seven specific areas of improvement: climate and emissions, energy, resource recovery, purchasing and procurement, transport, water and green spaces.
In addition to the actions laid out in the Sustainability Plan, there are many initiatives our students and staff take to improve out environmental outcomes.
Middle and Senior School both have Eco-Warrior groups, comprised of dedicated students who want to lead positive change at Carey. These groups are responsible for many admirable and important initiatives, including rewilding Carey by enhancing biodiversity on campus, actively engaging in environmental leadership training and leading the charge in managing waste around the School.

Our Outdoor Education and Carey Zero teams are always engaged with reducing their impact on the places they visit with our students. This includes waste management initiatives, arrangements with local producers for much of the food supplied on camps, and educating students about the importance of environmental sustainability.
