Carey’s Senior School and Student Wellbeing department are excited to host a community-wide event with mental health advocate, Nic Newling. Nic has worked with Carey students over a number of years, and we’re thrilled that he will now also be able to speak directly to parents / carers from any Year Level.

Nic’s personal story follows the highs and lows of having a mood disorder in school, the challenges of being misdiagnosed, and the grief of losing his brother to suicide. He details his temporary efforts to ‘be normal’ and keep his struggles a secret, all while facing the usual challenges that life brings. Nic’s presentation will explore the often-hidden experiences of adolescent mental illness, the crucial role of families and schools, and practical suggestions on how to make a meaningful positive difference. This thought-provoking presentation is emotionally impactful, humorous at times, honest, and most importantly, filled with hope.

Note: This event is open to all parents / carers from Carey and the wider Community. It is an adult only session that will be conducted in person - no online streaming or recording options will be available.
