It’s that time of year when the Performing Arts department is filled with the sound of Christmas music. Not just in instrumental classes, but preparing for various Christmas events. The Carey Community Christmas Carols was a wonderful evening of music, with choirs from Junior School Kew and Donvale, Middle School and Senior School preparing beautiful Christmas music, as well as leading an appreciative audience in a selection of carols.

The low brass students and brass quintet made their usual trip to Victoria Gardens in Richmond on Sunday 1 December to play Christmas carols. This event occurs every year to raise money for the Salvos, and this year did not disappoint with close to $1000 raised. Thanks to Adam Arnold for facilitating this event, and to Daniel Neal, Roger Schmidli and Simon Baldwin for assisting on the day. Many people stop to listen, and it is an event that seems to really instil the joy of Christmas within the community. And the best part – just how imaginative the students are when it comes to making their instruments more festive!

New enrolments and re-enrolments for 2025 have been encouraging and all of the staff look forward to working with the instrumental music students and ensembles next year. Choreography and band rehearsals are under way for Urinetown, the Senior School Musical, and Middle School have just announced that their 2025 production will be The Little Mermaid. As always we look forward to a wonderfully busy year of engaging and authentic Performing Arts experiences and the joy that sharing them with our wonderfully supportive community brings us.
