Here’s why we love them:
A gateway to knowledge: School libraries provide access to a vast collection of books, e-books, audiobooks and online resources. No matter your year level or interests, there’s always something new to explore. From classic literature to the latest scientific discoveries in science magazines, school libraries ensure that students have the tools they need to succeed academically. Access the Carey Libraries Webpage and explore the wonderful resources available at Carey.
A hub for learning and collaboration: School libraries bring students together. They offer study spaces, lunchtime clubs, research assistance and space for group projects, encouraging collaboration and the exchange of ideas. Library staff are always on hand to guide students toward valuable resources and help them develop research skills. This year we welcome two new staff members to the already very experienced and passionate Carey Libraries team. See below, where Emma MacDonald and Hannah Frankland introduce themselves.
A place of escape and imagination: There’s something magical about getting lost in a good book in a quiet corner of a school library. It’s a space where imaginations can soar and minds can wander freely, offering a much-needed break from the stresses of the school day. We also have games friends can play together at break times and spaces for catching up with friends.
School libraries are truly invaluable. They inspire, educate and support students in countless ways. Next time you step into your school library, take a moment to appreciate all the incredible resources and opportunities it provides, and reflect on why you love libraries.
The CLI Library (AKA the Jane Simon Library) and the Evans Library have welcomed two new highly trained library professionals to the Carey Libraries team. Emma McDonald is a teacher-librarian who is working primarily with the younger students at the Junior School – Kew campus. Hannah Frankland is a technician with experience in several schools. These new staff have already made a wonderful contribution to the library. Enjoy learning more about them below.
Marg Moran
Head of Carey Libraries
My name is Emma McDonald, and I’m delighted to be joining the Carey Library team this year. I have previously worked as a secondary English and Humanities teacher, before starting my Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship) and transitioning to teaching from the library. I am passionate about connecting students and staff with high quality resources, and the power of the right book at the right time! I’m looking forward to working with many different Carey community members and supporting a library environment where everyone is welcome.
Hi all! I’m Hannah Frankland. I was born in England and moved to Australia when I was young. I grew up in Emerald, where my first job was at my public library. I love reading (as per the job description) and am always up for a chat about books. My favourite part of working in libraries is being able to give book suggestions to students and share in their excitement over a new favourite. Outside of the library, I love arts and craft, exploring on long walks, and my dog Loki. I am looking forward to meeting new people across Carey and am hopeful to get involved with Staff events!
