100% of donations to the Access and Equity Scholarship Program, inclusive of all Voluntary Fee Contributions, directly support students with exceptional potential but without the financial means to receive a life-changing Carey education.
Since launching as an optional donation on fee statements, generous parents have contributed over $225,000 across four school terms, with Senior School parents having the highest rate of giving and a large rate of generosity across new Carey parents whose children have not yet commenced their first term.
This generosity goes to support people like Felicity Shalless (pictured above), whose family faced tough times after she had already been attending Carey for a few years.
‘I remember the day I received my scholarship clearly,’ Felicity says. ‘It was my dad’s birthday, and I was called into a meeting. I walked out elated because my parents had already told me I would not be able to stay at Carey, and I had made some great friendships and just loved being at the school. To walk out of that room knowing I was able to complete my time at Carey meant the world to me.’
Felicity was able to finish her VCE studies and graduate on a high note thanks to the Gadsden family’s donation to the Access and Equity Scholarship program. Felicity, who graduated in 2013, studied leadership at university and is now a Retail Marketing Executive and is actively involved in helping others through her church.
‘A big part of my life since leaving school has been give back to teenagers from challenging socio-economic backgrounds, having come out of the other side of some hardships myself,’ Felicity says.
