The Carey Community Forum invite you to join Dr Susie Burke as she shares her expertise and strategies to help young people deal with Growing up in a Climate Change World.

In today’s world, many things affect our children’s anxiety levels. High on the list is our environment. Climate change directly impacts on the health and future of our children, yet many feel they have little power to limit its harm. This feeling of powerlessness and uncertainty makes them vulnerable to climate anxiety.

How can we educate and empower young people about the future of our climate?

This presentation is to help parents think through the impact of climate change on their families. It will give mums and dads the skills they need to support their children and help them cope with the ‘uncomfortable truths’ of climate change now and in the future.

Most importantly it will help our children come to terms with the climate crisis, yet stay engaged and do what matters to restore a safe climate for their generation and generations to come.

Dr Susie Burke is an environmental psychologist, therapist, climate change campaigner and parent. Susie is an adjunct associate professor at the University of Queensland and co-author of the Climate Change Empowerment Handbook and has written many articles on the psychology of climate change. Dr Burke currently working in private practice in Castlemaine. She also consults and runs workshops and individual sessions to help people cope and come to terms with climate change.

Event Details: Thursday 31 March, 7.00pm to 8.30pm, at the The Ian Woolf Auditorium (IWA) at Carey Kew. The event will also be live streamed.
