The last few weeks have seen an exciting return to live performance in the Performing Arts department. The Senior Ensembles Concert on 18 March featured enthusiastic performances from our Big Band, Senior and Chamber Choirs, Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony. Given that the groups have only been back rehearsing for seven weeks and had little to no performance opportunities last year, the standard was very impressive and a clear indication of how willingly our students work toward maintaining a high standard of performance. Featured on the evening also was VCE Solo Performance student, Andrew Ogden, presenting three of Bartok’s Romanian Dances with great flair.
Following from that, our Year 7 Wind Band, Intermediate Wind Band and Symphonic Band presented short programs for parents at the end of their regular rehearsal time. Again, this was a reflection of some impressive work already achieved so far this year. I believe that the most rewarding part of these performances though were how well they were received by out Carey community, and how great it was to be able to share our work with you all again.
I had the great pleasure of attending the VCE Top Class performance at the Melbourne Recital Centre on 30 March. Carey 2020 graduate Angus Pace (pictured above in black as a gust performer at this year's Commencement Service) performed on Bass Trombone at the concert, presenting alongside top achieving students from all over the state. Ably accompanied by Keyboard Co-ordinator Christine Luo, Angus presented with great poise and musicianship, taking advantage of the wonderful acoustics of the auditorium to provide a very mature outcome. We are all very proud of what Angus has achieved with his playing and believe him very worthy of his inclusion in this performance. We wish him all the best as he continues to develop his playing at the University of Melbourne.
The second week of the holidays will be a hive of activity with both the Middle and Senior School Musicals rehearsing on campus. We look forward to sharing both of those events with the community in Term 2, and congratulate the creatives, cast, musicians and crew for their commitment to the success of both of these shows.
