At Carey Baptist Grammar School, we understand that student wellbeing is the foundation of a successful and fulfilling education. As a leading private school in Melbourne, we pride ourselves on our inclusive and supportive environment, where every student is encouraged to develop their individuality and pursue their passions. Our holistic approach to wellbeing ensures that students not only excel academically but also grow socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically.

Wellbeing underpins everything we do

Our student wellbeing program sets Carey apart from other secondary private schools. We prioritise wellbeing because we understand that it affects every aspect of a student's life, whether that be their academic success, physical health or social experiences. Our policies and practices are designed to foster a strong sense of confidence, agency, purpose and belonging among our students. This interconnectedness between wellbeing and learning is embedded in our daily interactions and school culture.

Our commitment to wellbeing is reflected in the positive and supportive relationships nurtured within the Carey community. By creating an environment where students feel valued and understood, we enable them to flourish both in school and in life.

A balanced approach

At Carey, we believe that a balanced approach to education is essential for student wellbeing. This means allowing students to do what they love and engage with activities outside of academics. One of the ways students find balance at Carey is through co-curricular opportunities.

Carey is one of the most well-regarded private high schools in Melbourne, partly due to our extensive co-curricular program. We offer a wide range of activities, including music, drama, community service, debating, theatre, outdoor education, sport and many other physical activities such as yoga, dance and bike riding. These opportunities promote physical activity and creativity while helping students form friendships based on teamwork. A Carey education goes beyond academic studies alone.

A fully integrated wellbeing program

A fully integrated wellbeing program is the key to unlocking each student's potential. At Carey, student wellbeing is not an afterthought but a central component of the educational experience. By balancing academic learning with personal development and support, we create an environment where students can become the best versions of themselves.

Student wellbeing starts early – from the moment students join the Carey community. Beginning in our private junior schools, we give students the tools to manage stress healthily and develop emotional regulation. The techniques they learn can be helpful once students move into the later grades - and in their lives after school.

Our comprehensive wellbeing program integrates core learning with personal development and support to ensure that students are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of their academic journey.

Carey’s Student Wellbeing team provides students with ongoing guidance in addition to their studies. Under the leadership of the Head of Student Wellbeing, this team includes School Nurses, School Psychologists, Student Guidance Co-ordinators, Wellbeing Project Co-ordinators and Wellbeing Administrators. The team collaborates closely with each of the four school sections to advance student wellbeing, mental and physical health, and social/emotional learning.

This robust support system ensures that every student at Carey receives the care and attention they need to thrive.

Empowering students to discover their potential

Carey students are curious, aspirational and engaged global citizens. We build on their unique qualities to develop young people who can act with courage, compassion and intelligence. Our inclusive environment encourages independent thinking and empowers students to explore their interests and follow their passions.

Carey’s holistic approach to education ensures that every student receives the support and encouragement they need to flourish. Our integrated wellbeing program, inclusive environment and diverse range of co-curricular activities all contribute to our students' overall development. Students graduate in Year 12 with a strong sense of self, knowing how to work collaboratively and feeling encouraged to pursue their passions.
