Our Year 11 and 12 VCE Chemistry students were fortunate to hear from a leading researcher in the area of Green Technologies, who spoke to them about her career pathway and the work that she is doing to help address the challenges of climate change.

Dr Bita Bayatsarmadi, Research Team Leader at CSIRO, the Australian national research agency, shared some of the story of her life as young person in the Middle East and how her abilities and interests led her to choosing Engineering and then research as her pathway. She provided insights on pathways in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, alongside also discussing research undertaken at CSIRO on the production and sustainable applications of green hydrogen.

There are substantial challenges facing our environment and our students were privileged to hear from someone who is using Science and Engineering to help solve some of these issues. They need to know that, as Chemistry students, they are well placed to enter areas after school that can be a part of these positive changes.

Students were thrilled to have experienced Dr Bita’s passion for research, many of them drawing inspiration to pursue career pathways in STEM.
