Meet our Principal, Jonathan Walter

It is an honour to be the Principal of Carey Baptist Grammar School and to lead our progressive and innovative community.

In our complex and ever-changing world, it is clear that today’s young people will be faced with a unique set of challenges in the future. It is our responsibility to ensure our students are prepared for their journeys beyond school armed with creativity, a positive mindset, and the knowledge and skills they will need to thrive.

I firmly believe that our educational philosophy is the ideal framework for this. It enables students to develop their individual strengths and follow their passions, whether that be as academics, creators, innovators or athletes. By emphasising the development of personal attributes and nurturing each student’s wellbeing and individual interests, we foster an environment that helps students to develop character and achieve their best academically.

We believe co-education is a vital part of helping our students to develop who they are from an early age, and we maintain an even gender balance across the whole school. By encouraging children to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse group of other people, we are helping them embrace these differences and learn to understand others. The world is not segregated, and Carey provides the best opportunities for students to broaden their perspectives, connect with one another and flourish together.

Carey and its community are inseparably linked. The significant contribution of our community enables the development and success of the young people in our care and is a testament to our deeply-held belief in a shared responsibility for creating tomorrow’s thinkers, leaders and positive change makers.

We understand that every child is unique and that there will need to be a range of different pathways to support the journey of each student through our school. We work in partnership with families to deliver a holistic education that will equip our students with both the desire and the skills to play an active role in shaping the future and to have a positive impact on the world.
