‘Now more than ever’ is the theme of this year’s National Reconciliation Week, because, now more than ever, we need to embrace reconciliation and show our support for First Nations peoples. As part of our curriculum, the Early Years Learning Framework Vol. 2.0 (EYLF), and the Child Safe Standards, we are committed to respectfully and truthfully ‘embedding First Nations perspectives through culturally sensitive practices. It is our commitment to children learning about what has come before and working together for what is to come.’ (EYLF, p 17).

To show our support in the ELC, our children participated in Wear it Yellow, where we raised money for Children’s Ground, who deliver education, health and employment opportunities for First Nations peoples. We have been delighted by everyone’s support of this opportunity to make our commitment visible. Children have brought in gold (yellow) coins and families have donated generously through QR codes, and there has been many yellow activities to complement the sea of yellow in our ELC rooms, along with lots of important conversations.

By wearing yellow and making donations, we’re helping to support a bright future for First Nations children and families. If you would like to contribute, any donation is welcome here.
