Following the green light to re-boot APS Winter Sport in Term 3 and government easing restrictions from 22 June, we are eagerly awaiting a return to Carey Sport for our students from the start of next term. An eight-week APS season is expected to run, starting on Saturday 18 July with a practice round, followed by official APS fixtures each Saturday thereafter. The final round will be Saturday 5 September (First teams will conclude on Saturday 12 September). All students in Years 7 to 12 who have remained in the Carey Sport program will be required to commit to their usual training sessions from Week 1 Term 3 and make themselves available for all Saturday fixtures. The normal Spring Sport offerings of Athletics and Water Polo will not be running in Term 3, however we are hopeful that a modified/truncated season in early Term 4 this year will take place in both of these sports.
Whilst we as a community are excited about the prospect of a return to play and competition, the landscape has changed somewhat and students, staff and parents will need to be aware of modifications so that we can maintain a safe and responsible environment for the entire community.
To that end, a Carey Sport – Return to Competition document will be finalised in the coming weeks prior to the Term 3 season beginning. All students, coaches, team managers and parents will receive this document outlining the various protocols/rules and regulations that will be required for a safe return to sport.
I thank the Carey staff and APS Principals for their terrific work behind the scenes in relation to our proposed return to competition. If you have any queries regarding Carey Sport please feel free to contact the Head of Sport and Activities, Paul Jepson.
