Welcome back everyone and a special welcome to all those families who are new to Carey. We are all hoping that 2021 will be more predictable than last year, but obviously there are no guarantees.
One of the blessings of last year was that we realised afresh how vital engaging with others is to our wellbeing. The holidays provided us with an opportunity to physically reconnect with family and friends and, as we do, we realise how significant are such times and how much we missed them for large parts of last year. I hope that one of the lasting legacies of 2020 is a renewed appreciation for my family and trusted friends and how much they contribute to my sense of wellbeing.
Holidays also provide the opportunity to spend time in the beauty of creation. A walk along the beach, along a river track or spending time in the bush all do good things for our wellbeing. It helps to declutter our lives and renew our minds.
May this year be a year in which we all experience times of blessing in our relationships. May we prioritise strengthening existing and valued relationships and may we resist the temptation to try to return everything as it was before the pandemic.
One other thing I would like to highlight is the School Commencement Service which will take place on Thursday 11 February on Sandell Oval, commencing at 7.00pm. Normally this service would be held at St Pauls Cathedral in the city, but due to restrictions and uncertainty about the numbers allowed, we are now holding it in the open air at Carey. This service is significant as we seek God’s blessing upon the coming school year, and we also induct our two Deputy Principals, Kate Croft and Peter Robson, as well as our new Head of Senior School, Kellie Lyneham.
