Outdoor Education

We believe that learning beyond the classroom is important to student development and growth.

From Years 4 to 9 at Carey, our students journey to various rural locations for exciting and fun outdoor activities, challenges and adventures. In Year 11, students have the opportunity to attend a younger year level’s camp as a student leader.

Spending extended periods in the outdoors helps students develop greater resilience, independence and self-confidence. They learn how to respect the natural environment and interact with it responsibly. They face age-appropriate physical and social challenges that encourage personal growth through collaboration and problem solving.

Camp Toonallook

Camp Toonallook is a beautiful four-hectare tract of land on the shores of the Gippsland Lakes. It is owned by the School and is one of Carey’s greatest assets. Our Year 5 to 7 Outdoor Education programs are held there, and we also use it for several leadership camps and retreats for older students.
