In 2023, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the enrolment of our first students at Carey.
In 2023, we celebrated our centenary. Carey Baptist Grammar School was founded in 1923 and named in honour of Rev. Dr William Carey. For over 100 years now, Carey has been committed to developing wise, independent and motivated young people who are inspired to create positive change.
Underpinning our centenary was our theme, ‘honouring our past, embracing our future’. Throughout the year we will delivered a range of inclusive, accessible celebrations for all members of our community to come together, reflect and commemorate this occasion.
Throughout Carey’s history, we have continued to grow, thrive and engage with our community. From being invited to join the Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS) in 1957 to maintaining an even gender balance since 2011, we are proud of what Carey offers and all we have achieved. Our Strategic Direction continues to evolve to support our students, staff, parental and wider school community.
It was fitting to launch our centenary celebrations on the same day as our school's official birthday, 13 February. We are grateful to have been able to celebrate our centenary with our community and we look forward to seeing where the next 100 years take us.
Take a look at the moments that have shaped our 100-year history.
We put together a special commemorative booklet reflecting on all of the major events from throughout our centenary and recognising the effort from so many staff, students and parents, as well as our extended community, without which our centenary celebrations would not have been possible.
We created a special centenary edition of Carey's Torch magazine in 2023, looking at the history of our school and community and celebrating the many aspects of Carey that has made it such a special community in its first 100 years and beyond.
There is still a small amount of Carey's limited edition centenary merchandise available for purchase!
